A simple way to create a stylish structure in your garden is to add a garden pergola, and it creates a perfect space for outdoor dining or relaxing in the shade on a garden sofa.

They are made of either pressure treated timber or aluminium and are intended to create a shaded area in your garden. Some styles like the Forest Garden Ultima come complete with patio decking and balustrading included, and all wooden styles require assembly. Radial pergolas are designed to neatly fit into the corner of the garden, so they are ideal for creating an additional feature in an unused space, especially once planted with climbing plants. Traditional freestanding pergolas can be positioned anywhere in the garden and can also be used to enhance a garden accent such as a water fountain or sundial.

Aluminium pergolas also arrive unassembled but are simple to erect as the uprights are surface mounted. This makes them ideally suited to fixing onto a hard standing such as a patio or deck area. Retractable canopies similar to an awning offer the best of both worlds, creating shade by closing the canopy. Attaching a lean-to canopy over door openings, such as French doors, is a simple way to make a covered garden dining area adjacent to your home. Its structure is built from one fixed beam attached to the property with three uprights.
