Lawn Mowers

There is one piece of garden machinery few homes can live without and that is the lawn mower. No matter if you have a postage stamp for a lawn or you have a vast estate, there will be a mower suited for your needs.

Petrol rotary models are popular as these generally have an option for most large lawn types - models with a rear roller for flat lawns or four-wheeled for uneven ground. Petrol hover mowers are more specialist for cutting the grass on slopes. Cylinder mowers are also specialist machines which are generally used to maintain a perfectly manicured flat lawn. Specifications for electric start, self-propelled, and cutting width are also considerations needed before selecting the correct mower.

Electric lawn mowers are designed for smaller gardens as there is need for a power supply to plug into, and consideration of the cable position whilst mowing is important. More recently, due to the great development in lithium batteries, the cordless mower has come into its own, generally offering as much power as electric and in some instances equalling petrol. This clean technology is appealing on many fronts - the speed of recharging, cutting anywhere without cable restrictions, and the fact they are easier to use due to the weight. Robot mowers have become more popular recently and are designed for gardeners with limited mobility or those who simply hate mowing lawns.

For larger gardens a ride on tractor style mower may be preferred, and these either come with a grass collection box or a mulching plug, so that a large area can be mowed quickly without the need for grass collection.
