Garden Companion Seats
A companion seat or duo seat is a popular piece of garden furniture because it provides a compact set of two seats, positioned either side of a small table. They are great for smaller gardens or balcony spaces because of their size and mobility. These armchairs can come fixed to the table or separate, and some sets come complete with footstools for extra comfort. These chair arrangements are often referred to as conversation seats, as they are perfect for relaxing and chatting with a friend while enjoying your garden.
Rattan companion seats are made up of a polyrattan material handwoven around an aluminium frame to give it a luxurious feel while ensuring the set will withstand the weather. Royalcraft sets are an ideal choice for elegant lounging as they have deep cushions and back supports for extra comfort. In addition to their high-end appeal, these synthetic sets are designed to stay outdoors all year round, though some cushions should be stored indoors depending on the instructions that come with each set.
Wooden sets come in a variety of hardwood, teak, pine, and other pressure-treated timbers. A popular choice is the Alexander Rose Cornis for its fine-sanded close-grain eucalyptus wood. It has a smooth lustre and finish, and in time, it will develop into a soft grey patina. Pine duo sets like the ones from Zest 4 Leisure also offer a great value and are manufactured from smooth-planed pressure-treated timbers. All the wooden companion seats will need simple assembly, and full instructions are included.
Metal duo seats come in two categories. Aluminium sets are much lighter and can be easily moved to sunny or shady areas of the garden to suit your preference. They also handle the elements well because they won’t rust. Powder-coated steel seats are much heavier and ideal for windy conditions but should be repainted over time to provide extra protection. Pair any of these seats with a couple of scatter cushions to add a little softness and colour to your set.
Many of the tables in these tete-a-tete sets come with a hole for easy installation of a parasol to help keep you shaded in direct sunlight. While a seat cover is not needed for long-term weather resistance, a small large companion seat cover can be nice to keep your seat dry at all times.
