The Soil Association has advised gardeners worried about pesticides in their food to buy veg beds and grow their own.
Growing your own organic veg is "a great way to avoid pesticides and provide you and your family with truly local, planet friendly food", a spokesperson from the association said.
Raised vegetable garden systems can grow salad crops, vegetables, flowers, alpines, bulbs and even strawberries, while gardeners with limited space can invest in an IntaLogs Small Herb Wheel and create a herb garden in a compact courtyard.
"People are becoming increasingly more aware about food production and the use of pesticides and artificial fertilisers in non-organic farming," the spokesperson said.
According to the association, the savings achieved by growing your own organic produce could be significant, depending on "how and what you grow".
The Soil Association offers classes in a wide range of food production, including a one day growing course titled Ready, Steady, Grow.
