The ''benefits'' of climate change

Climate change could allow gardeners to grow such fruit as peaches or figs, it has been reported.
Caroline Donald of the Times has urged amateur fruit growers to be more exotic and ditch the apples and pears for something different.
Ms Donald ordered that there is no excuse for gardeners not to have a fruit tree as you can often buy dwarf varieties that can even be grown in a pot.
She claimed that the Royal Horticultural Society has found this decade to be the warmest in the last 1,300 years and the warmer climes will cause the range of fruits that we can grow to expand.
Growing such fruit as peaches, figs, olives, mulberries or even quince in your own garden will also cut down on food miles, she said.
Homeowners that collect fruit from their own gardens could employ the lightweight Planto Harvesting Bag, which can make light work of collecting your harvest of apples, pears or humble quinces.
