Despite being in October, people can still inject colour into their gardens with late perennials and colourful wellies, the Telegraph has reported.
Writing for the newspaper, Sarah Raven stated that there are ranges of "zingy and floriferous" perennials that excel in October and November.
Ms Raven suggested the beautiful autumn-flowering salvia muirrii as one of the most popular and its mulberry colouring could look great next to a pair of ladies funky wellies to cheer up a dismal garden.
According to plantzafrica.com, the plant''s leaves, when crushed, release a light scent that is reminiscent of Vicks.
The expert also described the plectranthus argentatus as "amazing".
Gardeners are advised not to think that "planting is over as the growing year draws to a close".
"Inject some brilliance into the garden now and it will be better for it this year and for many years to come," Ms Raven explained.
With the nights drawing in, gardeners looking for a bit of sun could turn to the E. angustifolia, which offers a rich, burnt flame-orange and is often called Evan Sula or Sundown.
