Tools to get kids interested in gardening

It can seem like an uphill struggle getting children interested in gardening but it doesn''t have to be with presents such as the How Does Your Garden Grow Kids Garden Gift Set.
The kit comes in a brightly coloured canvas carry bag and contains a mini metal fork, mini metal rake, mini trowel and a watering can.
Getting children into the garden is half the battle and the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has suggested that encouraging youngsters to join an after-school gardening club may provide a way in.
The RHS also suggests planning a gardening day at the local park. It advises finding flowers for them that will germinate easily, grow quickly and have a visual interest impact.
In particular the RHS mention sunflowers as well as plants that can be eaten as "children will love to eat food they have grown themselves".
Lastly the RHS suggest trying to combine a planting event with a barbeque, picnic or a bug-hunt.
Combine these ideas with a garden gift set and children should soon be raring to get going in the garden.
