What to consider when choosing a planter

Gardeners have been advised to consider a number of factors when choosing an appropriate planter.
A plant''s needs must be taken into account when picking out a container or pot, according to About.com.
There are a range of attractive planters on the market, yet enthusiasts must not be guided by taste alone, the site claimed.
Exposure to the elements is one factor that should be considered, for instance if the plant is going to remain outside during the winter then a frost-proof material such as cement or wood would be best.
Terra cotta, popular in the Mediterranean, is perhaps not the best choice for colder climates, it also suggested.
Additionally, if people wish to be able to move their plants around relatively easily, then a lighter container may be appropriate.
A Haddonstone planter, made of a lightweight stone material, could be a fitting choice for this purpose.
